TRY TO UNDERSTAND
It dawned upon me that after years of being wrong and holding myself accountable and trying my best to be responsible for my actions that being right is not the greatest achievement in the world. For example, I would theoretically pronounce that: “It is not about right or wrong; rather understanding”.  Well, after being wrong for so long, I looked forward to the day that I would be right.  In fact, when the day came that I was undoubtedly right, I slept like a baby.  Yet, the person who I loved, was “wrong” and I was not trying to understand. That did not feel good at all.

FOCUS ON WHAT IS IMPORTANT
We all have areas in our lives that require improvement.  For me, I struggled with shifting my attitude from rigid to flexible.  You can call it maturity or the evolution of self; at any rate growing up happens at different stages for people.  More importantly, a new day started and my friend was not around.  It was clear that being right was not the ultimate reward.  Pride can cloud your judgment and serve as the reason for pursuing certain goals.  In this case, I learned that giving my attention to ego can have you lose focus on what is important.

DEMONSTRATE SYMPATHY
There were many times when my friend was right and I was wrong and we managed to continue working on our friendship.  It is interesting that when we are wrong being heard by others to provide justification becomes a priority.  Yet, when we are right, there is a feeling to keep on pushing forward with life without any real consideration of others.  This juxtaposition of right and wrong is not absolute.

LOOK AT THINGS OBJECTIVELY
Objectively speaking, life is filled with the proverbial ups and downs.  Failure and resilience are part in parcel of growth.  This is the reason understanding is more important than announcing who is right and who is wrong.  Holding yourself and others accountable is a different concept than deciding who is right and who is wrong.  My aha moment came when I realized that being right did not hold any real power.

LEARN LESSONS
Life is a master teacher if we are open to learning lessons.  My North Star helps me to determine my life’s blue print and that allows me to be my authentic self.  People often stay away from relationships that require a lot of repair work — for good reason.  Nonetheless, once the relationship is absent of abuse and instead embraces health and wellness, working on improving the quality of a relationship is a sign of committing to excellence.  In a time when it appears that there are instant remedies for everything, we can sometimes fall under the guise that relationships need to be ready-made to perfection.

RESOURCES CONFLICT
After being on both sides of right and wrong, I see the importance of understanding.  Conflict resolution helps people to determine what series of events took place; as well as provide a safe space to determine how each person impacted the other–without blame.  Hopefully through conversation and maybe with a mediator if necessary, life can go on with people helping each other.  I know that when my wrongs were recognized by others as decisions that I could improve on, the world became a better place to live in.  It is my aim to reciprocate such positive energy.  I guess that is the true meaning of doing the right thing.
